Twitter & Tiesto Unite

I had a dream…
VIA Mashable: HP and Intel will be hosting the first-ever live stream of a concert on Twitter next week at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show. The headliner: electronic music master DJ Tiësto.

The concert will kick off the launch of a new 10-episode series on YouTube called “In the Booth” — a behind-the-scenes look at how Tiësto uses technology to make music and connect with fans. The private event at the nightclub XS at Encore in Las Vegas will stream live from HP and Intel’s newly enhanced Twitter brand pages.

Tiësto will play a 90-minute set starting at 10:00 p.m. PT. It will then play on a loop on HP and Intel’s Twitter page for the following 48 hours.

“We have offered streaming on the site before, but this is the first-time ever that the site will feature a live concert,” Rob Pietsch, Twitter’s director of West Coast sales, told Mashable. “HP came to us with the idea and we couldn’t be more excited to hear how the company and Intel will be using their Twitter brand pages to reach out to the public and become destination sites.

“It’s a first for us, and we expect in the future that more companies will integrate streaming video into their pages.”

In December, Twitter announced that it would be introducing Facebook-style brand pages for companies to customize and highlight content. HP and Intel are among the first 21 brands invited to test out the new platform – other companies include Dell, Disney, JetBlue, Nike and Paramount Pictures. Read More…

What the DJ’s Want to Drop: 20 Electric Zoo Artists. 1 Track.

Paint by numbers. Last year, over 50,000 fans descended upon New York City’s Randall’s Island as over 67 DJ’s, producers and live acts banded together for Electric Zoo, New York’s Electronic Music Festival. Now in its third year, the fan favorite is back and bigger than ever with more than 100 (yes, 100) acts including Afrojack, David Guetta, Tiesto, Chromeo and more.

From the heavy hitting house of Boyz Noize to the trance tunes of Armin Van Buuren, the new sounds of Guti to the classic beats of Moby, there’s something for the dance fiend in us all. While loyalist are mapping out their plan of attack, here’s the scoop on the DJ’s must play track….

JetsetFarryn: “If you could drop just one track at this year’s Electric Zoo, what would it be?”

Amin Van Buuren (Farryn + Armin = Farmin).
Sunday. 9:15PM. Main Stage.
Track: “In And Out Of Love" Bootleg
Why: “I did a special bootleg version of my single “In And Out Of Love” for my summer sets. People really still seem to love that song. Plus, the video just went over 100 million views on youtube making it the 12th most watched video on youtube ever! Crazy!!”

Friday. 9pm. Main Stage.
Track: Maximal Crazy by Tiesto
Why: “My new tune Maximal Crazy. Because its a festival banger!”

Max Vangeli
Friday. 2:20 PM. Main Stage.
Track: Whisper by Vangelli
Why: “I would drop our up coming single called “Whisper”. It’s a track Antoine and I did which features vocals from Example. This record really describes our sound - it has a lot of meaning and emotions. It’s a record I am most proud of to this day. It was magical, we finished the vocal cut in one take. It was just bound to happen.”

Sunday. 1:15 PM. Mainstage.
Calling by Alesso & Ingrosso
Why: “That would be my new track "Calling," with Sebastian Ingrosso because it’s one of the most emotional tracks I’ve ever done. I’m really looking forward to seeing the reaction of the crowd at Electric Zoo as it will be the first time I play it for an American crowd.”

Friday. 7:25PM. Main Stage.
Track: “
Playing With Knives" by Bizarre Inc.
Why: "Even
though it’s 20 years old, it’s still the best rave track ever recorded.”

150,000 Fans. 3 Days. 8 Stages. Ultra Music Festival.

Despite the many forces trying to keep crowds away (fire at Miami airport, delays into Ft. Lauderdale Airport, traffic all over Miami, overbooked cab companies) over 150,000 enthusiastic fans made their way to Bicentennial Park on Friday for the 13th annual Ultra Music Festival (raise your hand if you drove from Orlando!). It was hot, it was packed and the schedule was chaotic, yet fans banded together for one simple reason: to dance the days away to one of the best electronic music lineups ever put together.

What once started as a small party on the beach in 1999 is now the world’s biggest dance music festival, encompassing three days, eight stages and more than 200 musicians, evidence that the electronic dance music craze has exploded into a full blown pop-culture revolution here in the United States.

Say Hello to LA-to-the-VO.

There’s a new hot shot in town. He’s super slick and plays hard to get. But don’t let his games dismay you. A little effort never hurt anybody…

Every so often a great new place comes to town (Ahhh Arena. Tada Tenjune). There’s the initial buzz, the paid-for-pr and the lines around the corner. The goal: for peeps to tweet their whereabouts into permanent social media status and stake the claim “I’ve been there.” But when you’re the super cool kids behind Tao (Marc Packer, Rich Wolf, Noah Tepperberg, Jason Strauss and nightlife lovechild Jonathan Schwartz) staying power is childs play (Marquee since 2004).

Inspired by the original LAVO Las Vegas, @LAVO New York is the new top-dog in town. With a Southern charm (no, not from the hospitable door guys) and burlesque inspired decor, it could easily double as the set of an upscale V bar. And in case you’re hungry - they serve dinner too.

Manic Monday: Shore to Shore

It’s been a wild month. Between Bonnaroo and July 4th, I’ve barely had a moment to catch my breath. And then, these past few weeks have been all about losing it again with inspiring pop-up tech and the Jersey Shore. Ready, steady… go. It’s Manic Monday, summer-style.

Note: Some restaurants have been withheld in order to wow you with a special Resto Week post… check back Thursday for the juicy details.

Inspire. @CreatorsProject.
Country Hoping. 12 Hours.

You’re probably sick of hearing about it but… Jetsetter partnered again with our friends at Vice Magazine to give away two tickets to the Creators Project London. For those out-of-the-know, The Creators Project is a partnership between Intel and Vice Magazine that self-describes as,”a new network dedicated to the celebration of creativity and culture across media, and around the world.” The New York event kicked off a series of five Creators Project events around the world with stops in London, Sao Paulo, Seoul, and ending with a three-day grand finale in Beijing. Each stop features performances, screenings, and exhibits highlighting the fusion of technology and creativity.Check out my video of the New York exhibit and check back soon… we may or may not be sending one lucky fan to Rio (wink).

Brunch. @Back Forty.

NYC. Sunday. 11 AM.

Ok, I’ll admit it. I was trying for Clinton Street Bakery, but with a three-hour wait, I had to search for an alternate. Enter Back Forty - a sustainably minded spot on Avenue B where a seasonal cocktail or dish isn’t as boring as it may sound.  Grab a spot at the twelve-seat bar or one of the communal wooden tables where you can annoy your neighbor with questions about their order (I totally did not do that). Order the Pork Jowl Nuggets with Jalapeno Jam (just don’t try getting a side of Jam, they negged me on that one) and Poached Eggs with Whitebean Ragout on Toast. But the real ticket is the Chicken with Waffles. Don’t skimp on the syrup.

Note: En-route to Back Forty, stop at one of the many small gardens in the area. Be sure to dance like a weirdo… it’s a great way to wake up.

Manic Monday - Version 2.0

Coachella - Day 2
(Be sure to check out my Coachella videos

@Gold_Saturn, we love you!

Temper Trap.
4:00 PM. Saturday

I skipped
Temper Trap’s show last week in Brooklyn so that their Coachella performance could be my first live experience. Boy was it the right decision. Lead singer Dougy Mandagi has a beautiful voice and knows how to use it. Tracks like “Resurrection” sounded even better live than on the record. The clear highlight of the show was “Sweet Disposition”; the crowd exploded and jammed until the last second. Their 5 or 6 song set could’ve been a bit more energetic, but Mandagi’s sweet voice had everyone mesmerized.

Break. Spicy Pizza & DoLaB.

4:45 PM.

It’s reputation precedes it. Seriously yum.

The Do LaB is an LA based artists collective and event creations company who set up shop at Coachella. The mist tent was by far one of the most brilliant things to hit the field since grass.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.
5:10 PM. Saturday

Capturing the Woodstock influence of Coachella, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros was by far the grooviest show of the weekend. Hippies and hipsters banned together to enjoy the bouncy, bubbly set. Thousands of fans crowded the smaller outdoor stage as the band opened with “40 Day Dreams.” I don’t know what they’re smoking, but my guess is that peace and love are in their pipes.

The XX.
6:25. Saturday

The XX was one of the most anticipated acts of the weekend (even Jay Z was spotted in the audience). The British band played it cool with a soulful 45 minute set that competed with the overbearing beats from surrounding tents. Despite a few moments of climatic volume, the XX captured the audience with a smokey attitude and mild synthetic beats. The three performers don’t do much on stage but stare at one another, but the music sure does sound good. The crowd melted over “Basic Space” as the neighboring stage (Coheed & Cambria’s) lit on fire due to misfired pyrotechnics. XX Bassist Sim commented, “The roof is on fire” and kept on jamming.

6:40. Saturday

Bassnectar dropped serious bass on Saturday night. I was blown away by Lorin Ashton’s grinding, churning, blasting beats. That’s really all there is to it. This guy is moving up in the world.

7:45. Saturday

Kaskade, a Mormon man turned one of the worlds most popular DJ’s, washed his fans in fairytale, feminine grooves and trance melodies on Saturday night. Fans bounced as white balls fell from the sky and purple hued lights filled the Sahara tent. Bassnectar provided the perfect contrast to the soft, flowing sounds of Kaskade. I can’t wait for his new album with @Tiesto. Its like a dream come true.

Click for VIDEO:

David Guetta.
9:00 PM. Saturday

David Guetta took the stage with “Sexy B-tch.” Joined by Apl.De.Ap from the Black Eyed Peas, he kept the fans dancing post Kaskade’s killer performance. I love David Guetta, but his set sounded a lot like a club in NYC on Saturday night. For non-techno lovers, he churned out remixed hits like “Apple Bottom Jeans” and killed the usual favorites like “Getting Over” and “On the Dancefloor.” On the other hand, he wowed with a remix of “Smack my B-tch Up” by Prodigy, complete with dancing 10-foot robots on the stage.

He wore us out, and got us ready for Tiesto.

Click for VIDEO:

11:40 PM. Saturday

Tiesto brought up to 75,000 people to the main stage for what has been deemed the largest dance party ever in the Coachella Valley. The world’s self-proclaimed No. 1 DJ managed to get even the weary, sleep-deprived kids on their feet with dance hits like “Escape Me” featuring C.C. Sheffield and “Feel it in My Bones” featuring Tegan and Sara who joined him on stage. A gift from the heavens above: a remix of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs hit “Heads Will Roll" which actually brought me to tears. I’ve seen Tiesto perform a dozen times and this time, he really out did himself.

Amazing last night @coachella, def my favorite festival in the world!! 11:51 AM Apr 18th
via Echofon

Lessons Learned:

  • Never skip Deadmau5 or Benny Benassi, even for Jay Z.
  • Of all the guides/blogs I read, none of them said to come early. OK, I’ll say this once – COME EARLY or you’ll be stuck in traffic for 4+ hours. Chill out, tan, groove to the earlier acts.
  • VIP Passes = not worth it. If you’re a lush, get one band for all of your friends and get drinks in rotation.
  • Coachella is all about the style, but comfort is more important. Bikini, tank top, jean shorts. Done.
  • There’s a lot to see and do, but don’t miss the Do Lab, Spicy Pizza and Ferris Wheel. The random art exhibits and performances are truly incredible.

Until Next Time. Over & Out.

Sound Bite.

Manic Monday is a bit, well, manic. To hold you over here’s a Tiesto treat. Mid-performance I had an idea and mixed my two favorite songs. If this doesn’t get me a place in his entourage I’m not sure what will.

(Please excuse the screaming, crying, and oh my’s in the background)
