Top 5 Thursday: Gift and Shout!

!

There are some pros and cons to the holidays. Con: heels for day and food by the pound. Pros: Friends, family and… pressies. I always opt for a plane ticket, but, still there are a few others things - both small and big - that have caught my big brown eye. Here’s to hoping Santa!

FieldCandy Tents (No really, please get me one for my apartment, bedroom backyard)

FJ44 ICON 4x4 (or any ICON for that matter)

Roll-Up Charger Pack
(so even my cords can look chic)

Calivigny Island
(It’s just a little baby [private] island near Grenada)

A Penguin! (or at least a pledge to save African penguin chicks abandoned by their moulting parents in the colonies where they breed)

Wear it Wednesday.

$ I love nothing more than dressing the part… especially when the part involves a little bit of patriotism. Whether you’re caped at the Cape or striped for a sail, this Fourth is all about a combination of color. Suit up with bold patterns, Boat-appropropriate staples and statement accessories that can help you get from beach to bonfire without a breather. Succumb to the after dark scene of Miami Beach, retreat to California for a food- and wine-focused long weekend or take a dip in a private plunge pool looking out at the turquoise waters of Antigua. No matter where you are, you better be firework ready. So pack it up, July 4th style. Sometimes it’s not just where you go, but what you wear when you get there…

Top 5 Thursday: Flag-Filled Fourth of July

#

The
Fourth of July is almost here, and what better way to celebrate your freedom than with a well-deserved break? This year, escape the backyard with something a little more you. We’ve gathered getaways to suit every style, whether your idea of a relaxing weekend involves succumbing to the after dark scene of Miami Beach, retreating to California for a food- and wine-focused long weekend or taking a dip in a private plunge pool looking out at the turquoise waters of Antigua. Fireworks, indeed… A week away? You’ve got plenty of time!

The Mondrian, Los Angeles.

One of the first hotels to define the Philippe Starck aesthetic, the Mondrian has gone from hectic L.A. hotspot to laid-back Sunset Boulevard classic. The bright minimalist feel of the original Starck design is intact, but since the hotel’s 2008 make-over, it feels a lot warmer, a little more relaxed, but just as chic. While you still might see someone famous at breakfast, it’s more likely to be a leading lady than a supporting actress.

The Betsy Hotel, Miami.

Just steps from the turquoise Miami waters, the Betsy Hotel places you in the unequivocal heart of South Beach, right on Ocean Drive. But the hotel’s quieter-end-of-the-strip location and its upscale, plantationlike design set it slightly apart from all the other hotels. The Betsy looks like a demure Southern Belle set in a sea of flamboyant Art Deco divas.

Donovan House, Washington D.C.

This may be Washington, D.C., but Donovan House isn’t the place to mingle with visiting diplomats or heads of state. In fact, you’re more likely to rub shoulders with young, hip Hill staffers who are at home in the sceney restaurant, Zentan, and the late-night rooftop bar, Above D.C. The edgy decor comes courtesy of urban tastemakers Thompson Hotels, so expect moody interiors with Jetsons-inspired furnishings and cocoonlike bedrooms with leather galore.

The James, New York.

Get a taste of New York’s downtown art scene — from your room. At the brand-new 114-room James Hotel in Soho, guests are surrounded by incredible work from local artists, coddled by eco-friendly amenities and greenery and located at Grand and Thompson, right in the middle of one of New York’s hottest neighborhoods. With credentials like that, it’s no wonder it’s landed on Condé Nast Traveler’s Hot List.

Hotel Palomar, Philadelphia.

A city largely defined by its architecture and history — from the rows of Georgian homes and 19th-century brick row houses to the towering skyscrapers that make up its jagged skyline — Philadelphia finally has an eco-conscious, art-oriented boutique hotel. This hip Kimpton property is LEED-registered and right off the see-and-be-seen Rittenhouse Square, where couples snuggle up on picnic blankets and designer shops lure the well-heeled.

Top 5 Thursday: Getaway For Memorial Day

#

Celebrate the unofficial (ok, official) start of summer with a Memorial Day Weekend getaway. Whether you’d rather be hiking outside Jackson Hole or simply lounging on a sunny beach, here’s a few ideas to suit your long weekend needs. But next time, don’t be such a procrastinator….

Woodmark Yacht Club.
 Seattle, Washington.
In Seattle’s eastern suburb of Kirkland, this 100-room property is a crowd-pleaser and a classy affair all around. The only hotel on Lake Washington, the Woodmark Hotel has a special perk for guests: a taste of waterfront life, thanks to a temporary membership to the Woodmark Yacht Club. And during this Memorial Day stay, all of the lake’s charms will start to come alive.

Malibu Beach Inn
. California.
Kick off the summer at the Malibu Beach Inn, a 47-room oceanfront property that puts Southern California’s fabled good life within reach. The inn has a studiously laid-back vibe, gorgeous Pacific views, stocked in-room wine coolers and a terrace or fireplace for the still-cool nights. And after a walk or two on the inn’s beach, you won’t blink an eye when you run into a celebrity — it’s practically a daily reality along Malibu’s 27 miles of sparkling coastline.

Forty 1 North
. Rhode Island.
Narragansett Bay is your watery front yard at this new Newport boutique hotel. Since its opening in April 2010, Forty 1° North has made the most of its harborfront spot with floor-to-ceiling windows, large balconies and open-air restaurants where you can dine on fresh seafood while watching boats bob in the water and the sun sink behind the horizon.

Smith Fork Ranch
. Colorado.
Get off the beaten path this Memorial Day with a trip to Smith Fork Ranch, in one of the country’s wildest locations abutting the Gunnison National Forest and West Elk Wilderness Area in western Colorado. A proud sense of heritage and down-home welcome runs through the meticulously restored buildings, which are filled with carefully curated antiques. It all adds up to one of the country’s most lovingly restored guest ranches — a place for trail rides on horseback, fly-fishing excursions, farm-to-table gourmet food and fine wine.

Cheeca Lodge
. Florida Keys.
The Florida Keys’ come-as-you-are ideology and tropical simplicity have attracted travelers for many decades. In the heart of these iconoclastic islands, the historic Cheeca Lodge & Spa has evolved into a serene barefoot-luxe destination since its 1940s inception as an exclusive hideaway for the Washington elite. Renovated and reinvented over the past two years, this oceanfront retreat brings a new level of sophistication to the sport-fishing capital of the world while remaining true to the Keys’ renowned casual vibe.

St. Patricks Day By Facts.
Because we’ll take any excuse to celebrate…

Tell us your favorite place to drink that beloved barley-based beverage…

About half a million people have packed central Dublin for a St. Patrick’s Day parade
Europe is home to a whopping 2300+ breweries
Beer brewing dates to almost 6000 BC
During Prohibition in America people took to drinking hair tonic and posing as members of the clergy to get alcohol.
In amedieval times the job of making beer fell to women
Beer is usually around 4% to 6% alcohol by volume

DUBLIN (AP) — More than 500,000 people packed the heart of Dublin for an unusual St. Patrick’s Day parade Thursday that pointed out Ireland’s current gloomy mood — and sought to sweep it away for a day. The hourlong procession was the largest of 120 across Ireland, a nation reeling from a three-year recession and a debt crisis that has led to unemployment, resurgent emigration and an international bailout. Thousands more parades featuring Ireland’s worldwide diaspora were taking place from Sydney to San Francisco.

Gift It.

$

Dear Santa,

Don’t tell me if I’ve been naughty, don’t tell me if I’ve been nice. Let’s be honest, we ALL know that answer to that. The only thing I need to know… is how to get my hands on these rockin’ gifts.

Art, for the sake of obsession… Royal #3 UltraChrome print with hand-painted acrylic gloss, drymounted onto 2’ deep birch wood by NOT A GALLERY’s Creative Direction, Justin Belmont. I know, that’s sexy.

There’s clearly someone (aka Luxirare) out there who is smarter than me… because this is bloody brilliant. Camera bag, meet my handbag. Handbag, meet my camera bag. And to top it all off, its freakin’ furry. Meow.

A good notebook never goes out of style. And Jasper + Black’s Archie Grand collection offers 120 pages of high quality paper to soak up your secrets. My picks: Photographers I Met And Liked, Travelers I Met And Liked… and of course, Capitalists.

Santa wouldn’t dare to bring me a gift and leave my baby Nikon empty handed. This holiday season, she’s getting suited up like Barney Stintson with Camera Amror which is heat stable up to 42- degrees Fahrenheit and 100% shock absorbent. Translation: she’ll be ready for the 2011 festival season. And I’ll be rocking these adorable Camera Lens Bracelets.

I’ve been living in Nikon nirvana these past few months. And then my friends at SPREADHouse had to bring me back to reality. While my D90 has been the perfect boy-toy, I’m a fickle gal, and someone else has caught my attention. Hello, D7000. Hello 16.2 MP DX-format CMOS sensor, 6 fps continuous shooting and Full. 1080p HD Movies. Amen.

Travel Tuesday: Quark Expeditions - Arctic

The Svalbard Archipelago is so far north that it should be permanently entrapped in the polar ice cap. Instead, warmed by Atlantic currents, the largest island, Spitsbergen, is curiously ice-free even into winter, making this ecologically rich and distant land both attractive and reachable. Quark Expeditions specializes in expedition-style adventure cruises with wildlife-focused shore excursions — a real treat in a destination that is both the world’s most northerly inhabited land and one of the last redoubts of the polar bear. Pack your binoculars and a healthy sense of adventure.

See the sights, in 24-hours of daylight with Quark Expeditions on Jetsetter.com!

Tidbit.

!

It’s a tough life, but someone has to ring in the New Year with Jay-Z and Coldplay… So Jetsetter and the brand-new Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas (yes, from those trippy commercials) are hooking you up with one sexy New Year’s Eve package: Hova and Coldplay in concert, a preview of the new Marquee nightclub, dinner for two, a celebrity fitness workout and more. You’ll be staying three nights in a Terrace Studio at the Cosmopolitan, where your private outdoor space will prove a lot warmer than cozying up to a stranger at midnight in Times Square. Did I mention that Florence & The Machine will be there too? Just in case the Chris Martin or Jay-Z don’t do it for you.

Spend New Years Eve with Jetsetter.com… I promise, we’re worth it.

Tradition is as follows: every member of the family picks and cooks (or pretends to cook) one dish, and every member of the family must wear clothing that resembles pajamas. Throw in some iPad speeches, a few I’m thankful for’s, a bowl of blackberry’s and serious grub love and you’ve got yourself a Weiner family holiday.

Oh boys of Dayglow, how you disappointed me once (I’m talking to you Paul Campbell)… you left me roaming the streets of NYC, on a Saturday night, in waterproof attire. But this holiday weekend the party boys made up for it with DanceGiving, a new event to tack on to tradition. What’s there to be thankful for? 3 Stages. An off-the-path location (oh hey Ft. Lauderdale) and 16 hours of calorie blasting beats, brought to you by @Steve Aoki, @LA Riots, @Cedric Gervais, @Wolfgang Gartner and @Robbie Rivera, to name a few. If you don’t believe me, just ask the thousands of fans who danced till dawn. Seriously, just ask them
