From HOUS to a (Sensation White House
Follow it, don’t judge it!

Festival. Sensation White, America 2012.
Because all we need is another festival. But if there’s one to add to the books, it’s the all-white bash from across the pond. Sensation White is the original OG fest, so get your glowsticks ready for Cirque de Soleil ala Ultra. Good thing @Austyntatiouss has been there, we’re gonna need all the prep we can get.

Fashion. HOUS.
HOUS is here to fill a fashion void — edgy styles that appreciate the scene and the people who wear them. As clothes become a part of the person, HOUS is a part of the music scene. The company has partnered with elite DJs like ATB, Bob Sinclair, Erick Morillo, Robbie Rivera, Sander van Doorn, and Sasha to create specially designed T-shirts for their fans. Other established names spotted in HOUS gear include Calvin Harris, Chuckie, Congorock, Dada Life, Darren Emerson, Drek Martinez, DJ Paulette, DJ Reach, EC Twins, Jeremy Carr, Junior Sanchez, Fareoh, Max Vangeli, Rony Seikaly, Sharam (Deep Dish), and Steve Aoki. Scoop it up

Event. DJ’s in The Sky, Nepal.
What’s that you see? The spot for the first ever outdoor musical event in Nepal. Ok, so maybe that’s Everest, but jump over a mountain or two to the district of Rasuwa, next to Tibet and you’re in the right spot. Think of a picturesque plateau, complete with pristine forests and traditional mountain villages.  Then, layer on three full days of comprehensive music across three stages. DJ’s from Nepal, India, Turkey, UAE, Macedonia, Lebanon, Israel, Italy, Russia, Pakistan, USA, and more are flying in, so why shouldn’t you? Tribal vibes, groovy beats and evocative styles, up in the clouds. Chillin’

NYC Lightsaber Battle: What’s that you say?
Several hundred Star Wars enthusiasts filled Washington Square to swing Lightsabers at each other and celebrate culture from a galaxy far, far away. See the full set of photos at Dave Bledsoe’s flickr (via: gothamist & tiefighters). And no, I’m not insanely jealous, not one bit.

Bringing My Beats to the Booth….

!

Since Doctor Klein put me on to Turntable.fm a few months ago I’ve been hooked… and seriously hooked in to what is one of the most innovative and fun music startups we’ve seen since Napster… yeah I said Napster. I’ve been running around the rooms, trolling the turntables for tunes and debating over valuations with DJ Wooooo. But this morning I woke up to the best. email. ever….. “Jetset, I would like to officially invite you to DJ our real life Turntable.fm Dance Party! You’ve rocked our socks in some way and look forward to seeing you do it in person!”

Do I, want to spin, at the first ever, non-virtual, virtual DJ event, with five other down-like-Klosman DJ’s? Y.E.S. And to top this bad boy off, they’ve invited my partner-in-techy-crime, Doctor Klein, to join me in the booth as well. So send in suggestions, give me tips and get ready to rage. DJs will be scored by how many people are dancing…. and thankfully, that’s never been a problem for me.

When:  Thursday 7/28 from 8pm until late…
Where: 412 Broadway
How: JetsetFarrynRocks promo code for tickets

Eat. Chefs Cook for Japan.
I’ll take any excuse to splurge on sushi… Next Wednesday, some of the world’s most acclaimed chefs will take to the kitchen to benefit Japan. The evening will include a dine-around tasting featuring over 10 chefs including Marcus Samuelsson of The Red Rooser Harlem, Anita Lo of Annisa, Jose Garces of Amada and more, specialty cocktails from Julie Reiner of Clover Club, Lani Kai, Daniel Boloud and Masaharu Morimoto. 100% of net proceeds will be donated to the Japan Society…. so chew on that for charity at Chefs Cook for Japan.

Hotel. Anantara Seminyak — Bali.
From yoga retreats in Ubud to point breaks in Kuta, Southeast Asia’s island gem, Bali, is a land devoted to escapism. On the southwest coast, the upscale resort area of Seminyak fulfills the niche for world-class dining and nightlife, fashion boutiques and vanguard hotels. On prime beachfront in the heart of Seminyak, the Anantara Seminyak Resort is a celebration of Balinese understated luxury and western trend setting, with 59 modern suites, one penthouse, a renowned rooftop lounge and two infinity swimming pools (one is only available for Penthouse guests) at the edge of the Indian Ocean. Check in, and check (yourself) out on Jetsetter.

Photography. National Geographic’s Best for 2011.
There’s no introduction needed here. National Geographic is simply the best… at making me want to pack my bag, throw in the towel, and live life on the road capturing spectacular people and places. This year’s best are as inspiring as the rest - I’m specifically obsessed with their pick for Best Pro “Arts & Culture” Picture (below) of a man enthralled during an open-air cinema show in India. Administered by the World Photography Organisation and sponsored by Sony, the awards are chosen by a panel of 12 judges. The 2011 winners were chosen from more than 51,000 submissions from 148 countries. Killer.

Bonnaroo By Numbers

!

It’s called Bonnaroo for a reason. Taken from the French word bon, meaning good, the annual music festival’s name literally means “a really good time” — and that’s exactly what it is… a really, really good time.

Let’s lay it out:

1. The hysterical hour you will spend raging in the Silent Disco
2. VIP tickets to the festival, with exclusive VIP entrance… ballin’
3. Slices of Spicy Pizza you “will not” eat
4. Nights you will spend beneath the stars camping out like a VIP in Tent City.
5. The two exclusive viewing areas on What and Which Stages and three lounges located throughout the fest - for your VIP pleasure
6. Times you will get lost if you don’t bring a flag, balloon or other creepy item to help locate your camping spot.
7. The new bands you’ll fall in love with at the Cafe Stage
8. The time each morning you will pretend to wake up for Yoga in Centeroo.
9. Years of attracting festival fanatics. Happy Birthday to Roo!
10. Hours you’ll spend in the car-lane if you’re not a New Yorker.

For more on the Roo… or check out our VIP package for two!

Tidbit. NYPL Game Day.

!

Sometimes, you just can’t help but act like a Star Wars geek who just got his hands on a light saber. And right now, is one of those moments. The majestic main branch of the New York Public Library is seeking 500 people to spend the night there on a scavenger hunt designed to tap into their inner creativity and potential as they explore its miles of rare treasures.

Find the Future: The Game,” was created for the library’s centennial celebration by Jane McGonigal, renowned for designing games that tackle real-world problems.

Tidbit.

Pizza. Soccer. Hot Women. What do they all have in common? Universality. And tonight, there’s one more thing we can add to the list - the Lunar Eclipse. It’s the Winter Solstice which means it’s 6 months until summer so celebrate by watching the world go dark.

Hey North America! Look up tonight, through tomorrow morning, as the Earth’s shadow will totally engulf the Moon from 2:41 to 3:53 a.m. EST, or 11:41 p.m. to 12:53 a.m. PST. Watching with the world? Sounds pretty epic to me. Grab a date and ponder the existential things in life until there’s no more light in sight… what happens next? That’s between you and the darkness ;)

Nerdy Facts from Sky & Telescope & Vanity Fair
1. A lunar eclipse and the Winter Solstice have not coincided since 1638! Wondering what went down? Well
Vanity Fair has provided us with some faux-tweets to help set the mood.

2. Each stage of a lunar eclipse is visible to everyone on the Moon-facing side of Earth. Observers in Europe, West Africa, and South America will see part of the eclipse before it’s interrupted by moonset and sunrise on the morning of the 21st. In East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, the eclipse is already in progress at sunset and moonrise on 21st local date.

 3. The Moon will be at the northernmost part of the ecliptic, north of Orion between the feet of Gemini and the horns of Taurus. An eclipsed Moon is always full, so if the eclipse happens in the middle of the night for your location the eclipsed Moon will be about as close as it can ever be to straight overhead.

4. A total lunar eclipse has five distinct stages. It begins when the Moon first enters the penumbra, or pale outer fringe, of Earth’s shadow. The second stage, partial eclipse, starts when the Moon’s edge reaches theumbra, or Earth’s inner shadow. The third stage, totality, begins when the last bit of Moon slips into the umbra. For this eclipse, totality lasts a generous 72 minutes.

5 Ways to Catch the Beat.

!

So it’s pretty clear I like music, and heading out to concerts and events in NYC is my little way of escaping when I can’t actually escape. International DJ’s and musicians bring some flavor to the everyday, and @Pacha NYC packs in all the action.

Last weekend, renowned DJ @Bob Sinclar brought Jamaican beats to a massive and curious crowd. For the last two years, the French disco maven was holed up in Kingston, Jamaica with Sly & Robbie’s legendary crew, re-imagining all his biggest hits in a reggae style. And on Friday, Pacha hosted Tim Bergling aka @Avicii aka 1 of 3 of Swedish House Mafia whose broad sonic palette has given me a sweet tooth for Swedes.

So if you can’t travel to the city, let the city travel to you…. In honor of Pacha’s Five-Year Anniversary, here’s a month of transporting tunes, so gear up!

France: David Guetta
Friday, December 3.
Grammy Award-winning sensation David Guetta is coming back to the booth from which he first rocked New York. In just four years, Guetta has gone from Ibiza’s favorite son to every pop star’s go-to producer and an international star in his own right, gracing the cover of Billboard magazine.

Safari. Shamwari Game Reserve.

The guestbook at the 49,000-acre Shamwari Game Reserve boasts a review from Brad Pitt: “The people are as fantastic as the animals majestic. Enjoyed the food chain. Many thanks.” Celebrity clients aside, Shamwari is famous for being one of South Africa’s most successful private conservation initiatives, a shining example of how responsible tourism can make a difference. This combination of romantic eco-tourism and conservation is what makes a Shamwari stay so special. Booking into one of the five-star lodges feels positively philanthropic. After all, if you’re going to invest in a safari, why not help out a feline friend or pachyderm family in the process?

Do yourself (and someone else) a favor and head to Shamwari with Jetsetter.com

Experience. Safari Surf School.
Channel your inner surfer with this escape at a remote coastal retreat along the Pacific in Nosara, Costa Rica (about 155 miles west of San Jose). Stay at the Balinese-inspired luxury hotel L’acqua Viva Resort & Spa and get twice-daily surfing lessons from a local shredder, yoga classes, an ATV rental, massages and more. Known for its wellness vibe and jungle surroundings, Nosara is a true surfers haven, too. The beach here is perfect for learning with shallow water and consistently curling swells. It’s Costa Rica’s pura vida — the pure life — defined.

Shoot the curl at Safari Surf School on Jetsetter.com!

Concept. Swoosh Experiences.
When you are Nike, you just do it. There’s absolutely no point being timid or ordinary. You blaze trails, create trends and draw attention – which is exactly what they’re thinking at The Cool Hunter: Access. This global agency is creating some seriously killer concepts to help spread the swoosh (as if they need help…): a swoosh-shaped Nike Extreme Toboggan Ride – a toboggan slide shaped like the swoosh, and of course, the toboggans themselves are shaped like swooshes too,  a Swoosh Slide and Hot Air Balloon… just to name a few low-key thoughts.

Event.
Hester Street Fair.
Hester Street Fair, located in a beautiful park setting, was once home to New York City’s largest and oldest pushcart markets. At the turn of the century, Hester Street was the site of the busiest outdoor market in New York City:

“There is hardly a square foot of ground in Hester Street that is not covered with people during the day. The whole place seems to be in a state of perpetual motion, and the occasional visitor is apt to have a feeling of giddiness.” NY Times, July 27, 1895.

Today, the Hester Street Fair focuses on curated local goods, vintage garb and food. Suchin Pak (um, love her) and brother Suyhun, Adam Zeller, and architect Ron Castellano are behind the event… and to top it all off, NYMag. and Grub Street will be there to make sure their guests are well fed.

Be there or be square - Hester Street Fair opens this Saturday from 10 - 6pm!
