View. Austyntatious for Art Walk.
Call me a stage mom, call me a big sister, call me her biggest fan, but there are few moments in life as important as your sisters first gallery show. After stints in Michigan, Miami, Thailand and Tel Aviv, Austyntatious has come into her own - and into her own gallery show as part of Miami’s Art Walk. From fine art photography to one-of-a-kind acrylic and Marlboro work (yes, Marlboro), A Controlled Substance opens tomorrow night at Control Gallery in Wynwood… and like any good substance, it will blow your mind. Prices available upon request and stay tuned for full show coverage…

Live. Architectizer for Jay Z’s Life + Times.

Jay Z wants what Jay Z gets, but the rest of us will have to settle for merely viewing it. For example, his latest piece of architecture treats from Architectizer for his editorial venture Life + Times. The article features five seriously swanky beach houses for us to fantasize over, and fantasize I did. As for the rest of the site? The tumblr-esque design is enticing; it displays Jay Z’s (and a few select contributors) influences, loves, wants and dreams but I’m not really sold. What do you think? Share your feedback.

Pause. Blog Action Day.

!

Blog Action Day is an annual event that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day. Our aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion around an important issue that impacts us all - Water.

Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of diseases and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Children are especially vulnerable, as their bodies aren’t strong enough to fight diarrhea, dysentery and other illnesses. The UN predicts that one tenth of the global disease burden can be prevented simply by improving water supply and sanitation.

But, water moves beyond just a human rights issue. It’s an environmental issue, an animal welfare issue, a sustainability issue. Water is a global issue, deserving a global conversation and for those of us in travel, something we simply cannot ignore.

In honor of Blog Action Day, we’re celebrating the beautiful bodies of water that make up the American Landscape - and our favorite places to sit back and enjoy the view. For ways to take action from sea to shining sea, check out Blog Action Day.

Join the conversation and Tell me your favorite spot by the sea!

Blog. Standard Culture.

Citadels of Chic. The Gold Standard. Even un hotel en Technicolor. The Standard Hotels have been called a lot of things, but never once “boring.” Hotel provocateur Andre Balazs has upped the anti on what makes a hotel ‘cool’… and they’re telling it to us straight with the new Standard Culture blog. Expect insider info on entertainment, music, food and events, editorial-type photography and downloadable tunes (my personal fav) and videos. Now to enter the temple of all things sexy, all you have to go is log on.

@Stan D’arde (the anonymous voice for The Standard Hotel group) will let you right in.

Hike. Machu Picchu.
Deep in south central Peru the dramatic Andes Mountains house some of the most impressive archaeological and cultural links to the ancient world. During a nine-day journey, Bio Bio Expeditions guides intrepid travelers through the majesty and mystery of pre-Columbian America. Hike the Inca Trail, marvel at Machu Picchu and mountain-bike through the Sacred Valley during this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Just make sure you bring someone you like, it’s gonna be a bumpy hike.

Take your adventure to new heights with Machu Pichu on Jetsetter.com!

Music. @Oh Land.
The other day my sister handed me a CD. Yes, an actual CD. I thought she was kidding. But after forcing me to press play (wait, there’s a spot in my computer for discs like this?) I was convinced. CD’s are the way to go when it’s the CD of Oh Land. What is there to say? She’s freakin’ cute as a button (Missoni just snagged her for an ad campaign); wildly talented (a former ballerina and offspring of musically inclined parents); and a recently landed Brooklynite (New York’s shiny new toy). In the vein of @NeonIndian, Oh Land finds her special sound through the use of a homemade one-woman-band music box topped with balloon video projections. Yeah that’s the best I can do to explain it. But with thumping, melodic sounds, transcendental vocals and somehow-still-catchy lyrics, Oh land may just be the next Electro-pop Princess… just don’t expect to see her wearing a crown around town.

Travel through the land of Oh Land here.  Break The Chain,  Sun of a Gun, & White Nights are currently on my repeat ad nauseam list.

VIA: Ace Hotel

!

Today on Jetsetter we’re featuring the super cool Ace Hotel in NYC. Two blocks east of Penn Station, the 12-story Ace has the formula for cool figured out. This hip hotel serves up a chill style with serious flea market finds (a Hubble telescope chandelier) and curious collectibles (stuffed badgers). Housing the Stumptown coffee shop, the Breslin restaurant and the No. 7 sandwich shop, this eclectic hotel is constantly filled with locals and foreigners, with an NYC atmosphere that is unexpectedly unique.

In addition to being the coolest kids on the block, they’ve also got a pretty killer blog going on - check out some shots of the one-of-a-kind artwork you’ll find in your room. Check it out and check in with Jetsetter.com

VIA @acehotel:

The Art Director’s Club of New York was founded in 1920, and has “a long history of serving as a barometer for the constant changes and developments in visual media and communications.”  They mentor a special society of Young Guns, graduates of a program designed to recognize and hone the talent of young creatives, and sometimes they aim the Young Guns over to Ace Hotel New York so they can paint things in rooms and do rad projects with us. Among them, Tim Goodman, Damien Correll and The Little Friends of Printmaking, as well as others. Most recently, artist duo Dora and Maja held a pillow fight in room 1209 and painted vestiges of the flying feathers on the wall — they’re releasing a book about it in the next few weeks

Tidbit.

!

It’s Monday, and I’ve fallen in love. I know, it’s early, the week has barely begun, but I can’t get you off of my mind. We spent the weekend together and it was sheer bliss. We just have so much in common: you love blogs, you’re into the freshest of tunes and very nice to look at.

Say hello to @Shuffler, a new wave of radio that aggregates music from around the web by genre … blogga’ style. If you don’t like the song you can skip ahead or pick another channel from the shuffler bar on the top of the page. Just do me a favor, get some Young Velveteen action up in there pronto.

Shuffler, you had me at play. Oh, he’ll have you too….
