Manic Monday - Version 2.0
! Ready, steady… go.
It’s the Zoo, Day Two with dirt covered faces, cult-like crowds, sister-backstage-sneaking, professional tent hopping and killer crowd surfing.

@ElectricZooNY Day 2. Let’s get movin’ #dance 2:40 PM Sep 5th via ÜberTwitter
@Laidback Luke.
Sunday. 3:30 PM.
Graffiti-artist-turned-DJ, Laidback Luke, woke the sleepy audience up with hits like Wynter Gordon’s “Dirty Talk” and Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition.” Sweat and dust covered kids are welcome to the dance off.

@Moby.
Sunday. 5 PM.
I’ll admit it. I wasn’t that excited for Moby when my boys like Boys Noize and Bassnectar were on tap. Shame on me for doubting the original O.G who dropped Underworld’s “Born Slippy” on an ecstatic crowd. Don’t be fooled by the vegetarian diet and cute hairless head - Moby performed one of the most surprisingly electric acts of the weekend.

I’m with the people! #Moby wrecking it RT @JonAlagem: En route to @ElectricZoo! Where you at @steveaoki @amandaweiner @jetsetfarryn??? 4:48 PM Sep 5th via ÜberTwitter

Weiner duo… Its #electric, boogie woogie. (@ Electric Zoo 2010 VIP Area w/ 13 others) http://4sq.com/cSF643 5:18 PM Sep 5th via foursquare
@Boys Noize.
Sunday. 6:30 PM.
Crazed fans charged the stage to hear Boys Noize’s explosive set. The German producer played an aggressive mix of rising, repetitive drum beats, reminiscent of 1980’s raves. There were no fakers here; Boys Noize brings truth… and those crazy club kids. Hold on to your hats!

@BoysNoize: Electric Zoo NEWYORK was insane!!! 10:20 PM Sep 5th via ÜberTwitter

@Sander Van Doorn.
Sunday. 6:45 PM.
The Dutch trance DJ and producer gave props to his friends, playing a whole lot of ‘Luke and Diplo. He killed it with The Killers “Spaceman” and Tiesto vs Diplo “C’Mon,” but I’m not going to lie, at one point I asked “who’s playing?” Being pleasantly surprised is always a good thing though.
You’re on my radar Van Doorn, so watch out.

Diplo.
Sunday. 7:15 PM.
Diplo performed a usual mix of his Top 40 hits to what seemed to be a pretty tired crowd. MIA’s “Bucky Done Gun” got me moving while Sandro Silva “I Told Ya” and Diplo & Laidback Luke, “Hey!” (Foamo Mix) got the energy back up. It wasn’t the best act of the weekend, but its one you can count on. And that has to count for something…

@Chris Lake.
Sunday. 7:55 PM.
Chris Lake, the English House music DJ/producer, became recognized for his bootleg remixes of The Prodigy’s “Climbatize” and Eurythmics ”Sweet Dreams”. Now, he is taking it stateside with some serious sets. I was convinced… so expect to hear more on Mr. Lake in the future.

@Wolfgang Gartner.
Sunday. 8:30 PM.
In less than three years, Wolfgang has had had eight #1 tracks on Beatport (including the site’s best-selling track of 2009) and remixes for A-list artists (Black Eyed Peas, Timbaland, Britney Spears), all lauded by David Guetta, Tiësto, and Pete Tong. His ability to create smash tracks like “Undertaker” and “Firepower” comes from his well-trained ear (he studied classical and jazz piano), particularly attuned to harmony. He’s a real musician, and his killer act at Electric Zoo proved it.

@A-Trak.
Sunday. 8:5PM.
A-Trak, aka Alain Macklovitch, began his career at age 15 when he won the 1997 DMC World Championships and proceeded to take home every other DJ title known to man. And this year, he had my heart with “Heads Will Roll” and stole the show with a rip of Aoki’s “Lion King” mix. Who doesn’t love a little jungle with their zoo?
@ATrak: On my way to #electriczoo feeling electric, it’s bout to be a zoo. 5:36 PM

@Armin Van Buuren.
Sunday. 9:10 PM.
Impressive lighting and LED screens cast a glow across the park during Armin Van Buuren’s performance. The world’s #1 DJ included bits from his new album “Mirage” as fans screamed in a cult-like manner. Want more? Hear what Mr. Van Buuren has to say about it….

Hey handsome…. @arminvanbuuren brings some real EDM to #NYC @ElectricZooNY #funnn http://plixi.com/p/43555719 10:20 AM Sep 6th via ÜberTwitter

@Bassnectar.
Sunday. 9:45 PM.
Mysterious, hair-covered Bassnectar played the loudest set of the weekend. Despite performing up against Armin Van Buuren and Steve Aoki, Bassnectar drew a massive crowd, anxious to experience his dark, brute sound. The smoke filled, dark bruting thing - it’s totally working for you.

@Bassnectar: Obliterated!!! Burningman to Nocturnal to Electric Zoo… this was a mad mad dash and it felt so good, but now i am ZONKED!!! #basshead

@Steve Aoki.
Sunday. 10:10 PM.
Steve Aoki stomped on the stage and sprayed champagne on his loyal fans. His dynamic set mixed rock, pop and electronic sounds. He got down with his bad self and churned out some seriously dark beats. He strayed away from only people-pleasing (of course he played “In the House”) and gave us bass mixed bits like “Invaders Must Die” by Prodigy and his Bloody Beetroots mix “Warp 1.0.” It was truly delighful.
But more importantly, Aoki made my dreamiest of dreams come true. The chance to jump, and fly across 15,000 sweat, candy and dust covered hands. Crowd surf accomplished.
True or False: I can cross “stage diving” off my bucket list thanks to @JonAlagem @Amandaweiner @StveAoki #dream

@SteveAoki: …Electric Zoo was crazy! Thank u New York! 3:21 PM Sep 6th
@Jetsetfarryn: No, thank you. Thank. You.

Armin Van Buuren Part Deux.
Sunday. 10:50 PM.
@ArminVanBuuren: @ElectricZooNY RAWKED POWNED etc! Wow! Thank you NY#TranceFamily http://twitpic.com/2lq0xm
If one thing was made clear, it’s that the thousands of devotees came there to dance and for twelve hours each day, dance they did. Despite discussion over the events safety and organization, the “dance ‘till your dead” vibe at Electric Zoo was contagious.

The main stage hosted big names like Boris, AVB, Dirty South, Benny Benassi, Moby, Armin Van Buuren and the Chemical Brothers.
The Hilltop Arena featured progressive house stars like Markus Schulz, Sander Van Doorn, Avicii, Above & Beyond, Wolfgang Carter (above) and Chris Lake.
The Red Bull Music Academy tent offered a more hardcore vibe with acts like Diplo, A-Trak (above), Aeroplane, The Glitch Mob, Joachim Garraud and Rusko.

Such energy and excitement was felt throughout the two-day festival as fans tormented over making the perfect schedule. For example, Armin Van Buuren, Bassnectar and Steve Aoki all played at the same time on Sunday evening, making it almost impossible to experience all three sets. Yet determined followers mapped it out to the minute and charged from stage to stage if only to catch each performer live just for a moment.
The two-day dance party came to a close with this year’s electronic dance music anthem, Swedish House Mafia’s “One.”
And now I’m done.
And done.
